Back for the winter.

The Black Turnstone is a medium-sized shorebird endemic to the Pacific coast of North America. It is notable for its striking black-and-white plumage and specialized foraging behavior, which involves flipping stones and debris to uncover invertebrates.

It breads in coastal tundra regions of western Alaska and winters along the coast from Northern BC to Baja. When we see them on the Sunshine Coast we know that summer is coming to a close.
